People’s Assembly is one of Africa’s most impressive parliamentary monitoring sites. As well as contact information, attendance records and a register of interests, the site contains a wealth of information on South Africa’s parliamentary process, its legislation and committee meeting records. It’s difficult to imagine a more complete and useful record of South Africa’s parliamentary goings on than this. That’s why we’re delighted to be supporting the team with a three-year, £105,000 grant.
Over the next three years, Parliamentary Monitoring Group will use this funding to support public engagement with the site through advertising, enhanced content and mobile optimisation, as well as outreach via radio, NGO partnerships and working with MPs. In addition, our funding will be used to support the day-to-day running costs of keeping the site updated with new content and features. In the final year of this grant, the focus will shift to national government elections and creating news stories, infographics and overviews in the lead up to poling day.
People’s Assembly is one of a handful of parliamentary monitoring sites Indigo supports across Africa. If you know of other groups working on this important issue, we’d be happy to hear from you.
