Access Info Europe and mySociety, the organisation behind some of the UK’s best known transparency and accountability sites, have launched a new website that allows members of the public to quickly and easily submit freedom of information requests to the European Union. AsktheEU allows users to submit requests, which are then forwarded on to the relevant body or bodies. The EU then has a legal obligation to reply to the request within a reasonable amount of time. All responses will be published on the AsktheEU site so that anyone and everyone may see them. To date, the site has received requests on issues as varied as Macedonian accession to the EU, an EU-India free trade agreement and international financial transactions.
