The Indigo Trust is delighted to announce a grant of £10,000 to Mobile Consortium Ghana to help with the costs of organising the Mobile App Ghana Showcase. This free, one-day event will bring together some of Ghana’s best up-and-coming mobile app designers to compete for seed funding to get their mobile app ideas up and running. Awards will be made in three categories (governance, health and education), with runners up receiving money to invest in new mobile technologies to help them continue their promising work. Following the showcase, Mobile Consortium Ghana will provide business support to the best developers to help them get their apps marketed and available for download. In addition, the event organisers will also be running mobile app workshops for beginners, which will teach those with little or no experience how to create, make and market their own app ideas. It is hoped that this will encourage more Ghanaians to get involved in the world of mobile apps and so strengthen Ghana’s tech sector.
Mobile Consortium Ghana is a strategy consultancy advising government and business on the future of mobile technologies on the African continent. They work with small companies, multinationals and government agencies, providing much needed advice and expertise on how to make the most of mobile technologies to drive business, increase transparency and reduce inefficiency.
The event is scheduled to take place on 24 September 2011 and by early August, 30 app ideas had already been submitted to the judging panel. If early indications are anything to go by, Mobile App Ghana Showcase should be a run-away success.
