Having supported iCow on several occasions in the past, we’re pleased to announce a further grant of £21,692 to Su and her team. This will cover core costs for the next six months – a crucial time in iCow’s development as they look to scale up the organisation. Because we talk so much about iCow here at Indigo, we often take it for granted that people know what it does. If you don’t, here’s a recap. iCow is a mobile application that provides Kenyan farmers with key information necessary to keep their cows healthy and their profits healthier. The basic idea is to enable farmers to access information and receive alerts that will enable better and more efficient herd management based on real data. It has several features including:
- Prompting farmers on vital days of cows gestation period
- Helping farmers find the nearest Vet and AI providers
- Collecting and storing farmer milk and breeding records
- Sending farmers best dairy practices
Its greatest asset is its simplicity. It works with almost any kind of phone capable of sending and receiving SMS and offers practical information in an easy-to-understand format written especially by and for dairy farmers. That’s why we’re delighted to be able to provide ongoing support to the iCow team.
